On what seemed like it might have been the rainiest day of the year so far we did a mostly outdoor shoot with my long time clients and very good friends Angela & Jennifer Chun, a violin duo. This was our third shoot together and the photos will be used for their 3rd Harmonia Mundi USA CD.

Surreal, and not particularly glamorous, day backstage at a major hip-hop artist’s concert – we arrived at 2pm at Cardiff Motor Point Arena to be ready to photograph Drake at any point. We got our (almost) 4 minutes with him after 8pm, just before he went on, and just after the EPK film crew managed to get what they needed… in 8 minutes!

A great day working with Richard and Shaun and James from the EPK video team. Plus we got to meet supporting act Labrinth’s vocal coach and touring band, all lovely down-to-earth musicians, to get to know Drake’s brilliant tour manager Jamil D and to make our own smoothies in the crew dining room.

Now on train back to Paddington…

Wigmore Hall London International String Quartet Competition 2012

My rather good view of the proceedings at this morning’s talk and preliminary round of the Wigmore Hall London International String Quartet Competition.

This morning I got to hear the Nightingale String Quartet play Haydn Op. 2 in D minor and contemporary Australian composer Brett Dean‘s Eclipse, a very interesting (in a good way) modern piece that is effectively a political commentary on the desperate plight of the so called ‘boat people’ and the ‘Tampa’ incident near Australia in 2001.

Then the Piatti Quartet played Mozart C major K465 and Bartok No. 3.
